So what do you do if you can't read out of text books or lecture all the class period?

Well, here's just a little start on different things you could do to engage the students while learning!

Lesson Plans:

  • Hands-on projects are loved by almost all students. It helps them start "wrapping their mind" around the concept.
  • If you demonstrate what you are teaching, that helps the students get a deeper understanding of the concept.
  • When using visuals, such as a powerpoint, video, or pictures, students can look to expand there thinking rather than reading out of textbooks and trying to make that picture in there head.
  • "Teach with Technology"- Teaching with technology can deepen student learning by supporting instructional objectives.

Some example lesson plans students developed where walking the solar system, where the students walked around the track to the scale size of the solar system, and jumping to see how far they would land on different planets.

Projects:

  • Create and advertisement trying to “sell” what you just learned.

  • Create a board game that shows that the students have developed knowledge through the lesson(s.)

  • Create a brochure on what the students learned.

  • Create a collage that represents ideas or important facts within the new information.

  • Make a map on the steps of the things the students have learned.

  • Have the students invent something to help them learn the topic that was taught.

  • Make a limerick on what the students learned. “There once was a man named Sir Newton…”

  • Let the students chose a project to demonstrate their knowledge to you with simple requirements of what they must have with-in the final product.
